That billet looks really neat! I like that. My finished record now is 200 layers all hand forged. I made myself a press so now I’m kinda at a dilemma.... I have a billet now at 1842 layers. I’m like you, I doubt I’ll ever go this high again but..... since this will be a 1 time thing should I cut my billet into 2 or 3 pieces. 3,000+ or 5,000+ layers? I’m wondering if I’ll even see a pattern or not. I’ll probably never go above 500 layers again. What is your opinion please? 3 or 5,000 layers?

In making Damascus steel, there cannot be even trace amounts of phosphorus in it, it prevents it from welding.

I’ve got 2 microwave oven transformers I’m rewinding for use as a Tig welding voltage source. I’ll cut the secondaries off and install very heavy gage wire in its place. I’m a trained Electronics Repair tech and am familiar with such things.

Thanks for showing the basic layout! Anyone who can do basic welding and fab can run with that ball. I have a bad right shoulder so I'm going to weld something like that but mobile and all metal so it won't loosen

Definitely going to give this idea a swing at some point I wonder if there would be a way to keep it as a treadle hammer, but add a cam to it for some rudimentary power hammering? I have an old bench grinder that might work a treat for the job

if you don't have a return spring you can use a counter weight.

How long do we need to make the jaws outside the nippers??? Your idea has cought on. Used nippers have gone up. I once got them for 2or3$ now ten $...

i loved how you made the shape of the engine with poured alloy. looks great i just wished there was a really old looking engine that was readily available with exposed working side valves or better yet a V twin version
